A Quilty Finish - Ruby Swoon

And the slack Blogger award goes to Me!

I don't "do" New Year Resolutions but I am going to try and be more disciplined
and Blog more in 2016.

So with that said, here was my last finish for 2015.

My Ruby Swoon.

This beast finished at 98" square and is pictured below on a Queen sized bed.

I have teamed the Ruby Fabric from Bonnie and Camille with some Black Essex Linen.

I do love this combination and seeing this quilt all finished makes me happy and with it the realisation that much loved and "hoarded" fabrics need to be made into something that can be loved and used and not left to "show" on a shelf.

I am also getting some of the Essex Linen quilted in the same all over pattern to make into some large European Cushions.  Yes a full room makeover is is progress.

The quilting on this one was done by Linda over at Ladybug Quilting.
The link to Linda's Facebook page is just over there on the right.
I can highly recommend Linda, she does beautiful work.

Pattern is Swoon by Thimble Blossoms
(I did modify the size of the blocks so that I could cut bigger pieces
to avoid cutting the fabrics and to show them off more with no seams).

Swooning to the finish line

and over I go!

Yep, it feels like it has taken me forever
but at last I am calling my
Swoon Quilt
finished.

It is now safely on my bed and everyone has been warned,
all that white and all,
as I don't want to be washing it too often.

One thing holding me up on finishing this one was the binding.
In the end I went with the same fabric as the backing.

It is so rewarding to take a pile of fabric from this

to this.

Now to add some cushions to my "to-do" list.

Hopscotch Finish

Hopscotch in Bliss

I am doing a little happy dance here whilst I show you this one.
I am so pleased with how it has turned out.

I LOVE the fabric
I LOVE the design
I LOVE the quilting

I LOVE the triangles and the stars

and I LOVE the BACK

and I LOVE that my 9 year old wants it on her bed.
Now I just need to make Keegan some pillows to go with it :o)

Fabric Top - Bliss Jelly Roll by Bonnie & Camille
Moda Bella Solid in Bettys Pink 9900 120
Moda RUBY Dot Aqua Fabric by Bonnie & Camille
Fabric Back - Moda Bella Solid in Ruby Ice Fabric 9900-169

You know, there is only one down fall (if I can call it that) from making this quilt and it is simply that I do not have a Jelly Roll of Bliss anymore for a future project :(  but I do have a beautiful quilt to show for it :) and lets face it, a beautiful quilt on a bed has to be better than a jelly roll on a shelf!

Today I am going to link up with

Fresh Poppy Design

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Stitching the week away and what next?

This week has been a little stitching on a lot of projects.
Here is a round up.

Swoon
I have finished the hand quilting on three blocks .... only 6 to go!

Vignette Mystery Quilt

Still plodding away at blocks 8 and 12
I want these finished so I can get back to the centre blocks
This section truly does feel like it is taking forever to do.

As part of the Little Bit French Swap Cheryl over at Willowberry Designs is sharing
a pattern a month and this week I have finished the first two designs and made a start on the next one.
Here are the first two.

And the mail man was super kind to me this week :o)

I am now ready to start my next project in the

with the arrival of my pink solid fabric.

Just need to get out and buy a new blade before
I attempt to cut all this fabric up.

Fernhill

Also arriving this week was my first button and fabric pack for
Lynette Anderson's new Mystery Button Club, Fernhill.
I am loving the colours in this one and as much as I would love to start it now
I really think I need to finish something off ... lol

I would like to thank everyone who sent an email on our loss of our beautiful Pug Molly.
Your words and thoughts mean so much, thank you.
16 years with this beautiful girl and I miss her so much.
I have so many memories of her that I will cherish forever. xx

and just to top off the week that was..

I spent 5 hours at the hospital last night with son no 2.
He injured his knee yesterday at school and is now in a brace and on crutches.
The tendon has become detached from his knee cap and he has a couple of small bone chips floating around.  I am awaiting a phone call from the Orthopaedic surgeon this morning.
Possible MRI and surgery.

Don't think he will be playing much football this season :o(

Arggh    ...... this is a week I don't want repeated.
Thank you for stopping by,
I think I might just go and grab another strong coffee
and start that Hopscotch quilt :o)

FNSI - Results

The start to my FNSI was a little slow to start as I had to make 4 batches of scones just before 5pm for Miss Keegan to take back to school for the School Fair.  Her class was running a cafe and Devon shire Tea's were on the menu ... yum yum.

When we did eventually get back home I got to settle in for the night.

I started off by finishing off a Softie that has been sitting around way to long!

Then put the last stitches in my secret project for the Friends with Benefits Swap

I then set up to start working on the Hand Quilting for my Swoon.
I am not really sure where I will go with the hand quilting so I am just going to start off by doing 1/4" inside the seams  for every block.

I am already thinking that I might like to do something inside the centre star so I will be keeping my eye out for inspiration.

Wrestling this beast, all 80" square of it, meant that one was enough for one night
so on to the next thing then bed.

I managed to finish of another Rose Star for my garden.

Rose Star No. 4

So overall a very productive FNSI.

It is Miss Lily's birthday party tomorrow so I have some catering to organise today,
oh and that cake to decorate!

Enjoy your weekend.

Swooning ... oh so close

Well not really, I still have a lot of work to do!
Let me share.

I picked up my Swoon Quilt yesterday and I am in love with this quilt all over again.

Linda has done a fantastic job on this for me.
I decided to just get the white section of this quilt machine quilted
as I didn't want to take away from the actual pattern of the swoon block.
I love the way that the blocks "pop".

If I wanted I could just leave it as it is but no, I have decided to continue with my
original plan and hand quilt the rest.

So with tonight being FNSI, you know what I will be working on :o)

Once these are all done I will have to make a decision about the binding.
Any suggestions?
How do you think the fabric that I have used for the backing would look?

Enjoy your day,
hugs, Sharon

Swooning some more

Do you remember the Swoon-along that took off ... and is still taking off?

It helped me get my Swoon Quilt out of the "to-do" pile and made in record time (for me).

Well the next stage of this "Swoon-along" starts today!!!!!

The group is now called

the swooning on a hop along

and it can be found over HERE

And the next round is the making of "On a Whim" or "Hopscotch" and of course Swoon.
There are no deadlines or pressure, just an amazing group of people all sharing
their journey making these lovely quilts.

I am panning on doing "Hopscotch"

No Y seams here .... yay

in Bliss (of course....I am on a bit of a Bliss roll at the moment)

The blue spots is for the binding and triangular points.
Solid Blue is the backing and I have ordered this

Moda Bella Solid in Betty's Pink 9900 120
for the neutral (as pictured above)
I have been told that this color is a good choice for Bliss.
I hope so as I want a more "girlie- pink" feel for my quilt :o)

When it arrives I can make a start, but need to do some sewing on some other things first.
Taking a lot of my time at the moment is the

Vignette Mystery Quilt

I am still plugging away at the stitching on blocks 8 & 12 and now the next issue of Vignette is out I am working on the middle blocks, 10 & 11 also.

I so want to update this collage and only have the bottom row to go.

Which will be the next two issues of Vignette.

Have another Bliss full day,
Hugs, Sharon

Swooning Sneak Peak

Have you missed my Swoon Quilt?

I have!
Here is a sneak peak of it as at the weekend ...

The quilting on this one is a little different and
I am not able to pull this one off all by myself so I have in listed the help of
Linda at Lady Bug Quilting here in Bendigo :o)
A huge thank you to Linda for the photos,
you are doing an amazing job :o)

This is only the second quilt that I have sent out for quilting.
Linda also worked on Miss Lily's quilt for her "big girls bed"
Which can be seen HERE right at the bottom.

I am so pleased with how this is turning out and am looking forward to having it on my bed.
Only problem is that I am a "cushion/pillow girl" and I have just a few on my bed (by just a few I mean 10 decorator cushions/pillows!) so now need to think about how I am going to "accessorise" this quilt!

Enjoy your day,
hugs, Sharon

Swoon Sewing

Swooning just that little closer ........ Saturday Sewing

My backing fabric has arrived :o)

So just a little cutting and then sewing
Off to the ironing board for a quick press

Then laying to top on the floor, face down
Trimming all the threads
Off to the ironing board again
a good press

Now all hung in Miss Lily's wardrobe (the only one with space)
waiting for the next step ...............

Quilting
and whilst I was at it I also ironed my other two tops that I need to be doing something with.
Maybe if I see them every day I might be inclined to finish them off also.
and just because I can ...
another picture of the completed top

This will be the last time you all see it until it is finished and ready for my bed :o)

Finished

My first Rose Star!

Finished this one off last night whilst watching the tennis :o)

I think that there will be more added to this one over time.
I am using the left over fabrics from my Vignette Mystery Quilt.
Might even prep another this afternoon ready for sewing.

Thinking this will be my new paper piecing quilt but there is no way that it will be finished as fast as my Hexagon quilt as these take a lot longer to stitch together.

If you want more info look at my post below for the links.

My backing fabric for my Swoon Quilt also arrived today,
so I now need to think about sewing it up and then
trimming all the threads of the back of the top (I hate that part),
giving it a good iron and getting it ready to get quilted :o)

Enjoy your day, Sharon

Swooning to a Finish

Deciding on the final layout has been one of the hardest parts of  making this quilt.

Seeing the Swoon-along appear in Blogland was obviously all I needed to get this one made and off my "to-do list" for 2012. But, as can be seen here I have already added another two to that same to-do list.

I committed to make the quilt on Monday 9th after a fall out with another project.
I had fabrics picked from my stash on Thursday 12th

I mucked up one FQ when cutting and had to substitute :(

but, now I have a completed Quilt top,
with colors so far out of my comfort zone,
but I am so happy with it.

It is such a beast that I can't get my clothesline to go high enough so it doesn't drag on the ground.

and being that the colors are so far out of my comfort zone
I thought I would run with it,
so what do you think of such a bold choice of backing fabric?

Innocent Crush - First Impressions by Anna Maria Horner for Free Spirit
Only live once right :)

Now for the quilting.
It is booked to go to the quilters
but not for the quiting job your might expect,
something a little different
........ more on that soon :o)
hugs, Sharon
