FRESH FAT-QUARTER QUILTS| penelope quilt

Welcome to my day on the Fresh Fat-Quarter Quilts Book Tour.  Fresh Fat-quarter Quilts is the new book by Andy Knowlton for Martingale, featuring 12 fat-quarter friendly quilts.

This book is beautifully presented with a great assortment of quilts to suit anyone. So if you have 6FQ or 14FQ sitting on your desk that you love but are not sure what to do with, I recommend that you take a look at this book.

To celebrate the release of Andy's book I decided to make the 'Penelope Quilt' using my Bonnie and Camille stash.

Once upon a time I would have not made a quilt with so many HST's but the laser light on my Brother machine (Innovis VQ3000) takes away the need to mark my HST. I can just pair my fabric and stitch! Add in some chain piecing and it all starts to come together rather quickly.

I have a navy Bonnie and Camille floral picked out for the binding.

I do apologise for the yellow photos but with a week of a sick Miss L, a washing machine giving up on me and now Miss K getting sick and then rain this afternoon, I have given up on an outside photo for the time being. Maybe I will try again after I quilt this one.

And .......... because a photo shoot can't happen in my house without a little photo bombing!

The Splendid Sampler 2 has launched!

Welcome to the first week of the 

'The Splendid Sampler 2'

Sew along.

Every week for the next 20 weeks Jane and Pat will be releasing one 6" finished block from their second book to kick start the sew along.  After the first 20 weeks you will need the book to continue with Jane and Pat selecting the next block to be made and we all get to stitch along together.

The blocks will be released every Thursday and it is my plan to bog mine here on the Friday.

The first block is .......

And here is my version.

I am going 'scrappy Bonnie and Camille' for my blocks being that I already have a sashing plan I am going to sash my blocks as I go. Hopefully this will help keep me on track. It also makes me make a decision about the sashing colour now so that I do not linger/procrastinate/stall (you get the idea) on it too long.

So here is my finished Block 1.

The Splendid Sampler Funs starts this week.

The Splendid Sampler 2 is the second book from Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson.

The book has 100 blocks that finish at 6".
All the blocks have been created by an awesome collection of creative people worldwide .
Each adding their own style to the complete project.
The list of the designers can be found HERE and yes I am one of them!

So, are you going to be sewing along?

 The sewing kicks off this week with the first 20 blocks being provided free, one per week,
in the lead up to the books release and once the book is released there will be a nominated block per week, from the book to complete. Sounds like fun right :)

I will be sewing along with you and posting my blocks here on my blog and Instagram weekly.

Spelling Bee Saturday ......

Wow, time really does fly and it is my turn again on the 

Spelling Bee Saturday Sew Along

with The Fat Quarter Shop and Lori Holt.

  

The lower case 'v' was super fast to sew. It actually took me longer to select a fabric from my Bonnie and Camille scrap box!

Following on from my first stop on the sew along I have again decided to create a word, with the eventual plan of adding these words to a quilt.  So todays word ........

I have also used the small heart book included in the 'Spelling Bee' book.

"Create" was made on my first stop on the quilt along and now I have the book back out I think I might just sit and make a list of words and bring this quilt idea to life. :)

Blossom Love - A New Quilt Pattern and a GIVEAWAY

"I love big blocks, I can not lie!"

Allow me to officially introduce my newest machine pieced quilt,

"Blossom Love"

Nice big 18" blocks with the quilt finishing at 62" x 62" and Fat Quarter Friendly.

Blossom Love has been made using "Frolic" the newest fabric range from Melly and Me for Ella Blue and I do believe that it is now in Australia and has starting to arrive in shops. 

I am also including one block as the centre of a medallion quilt I am making and I love how it looks in 'scrappy' Bonnie and Camille.

This medallion quilt is very much a work in progress but just imagine a scrappy Bonnie and Camille, (or any of your favourite fabric actually) Blossom Love :)

Hex-a-day Week 1 Progress

Hex-a-Day

I have just finished today's Hexie so in my attempt to return to regular blogging 

and blogging my Hex-a-Day project here on a Sunday, 

allow me to present the remainder of this weeks Hexagons.

If you would like more information on the calendar I am using please see my previous post.

I am aiming making one Hexagon a day using my Bonnie and Camille scraps.

I had better go and clean up my mess before our puppy decides my fabric is there for her enjoyment!

Hexie -a-day with Katja Marek

I have invested in
The New Hexagon - Perpetual Calendar 
by Katja Marek for my work desk.
Each day has a new Hexagon.

Instead of just looking at the hexies each day as I flip the calendar over I thoughgt that I might actually try to sew one a day.  I know that some days it will not be possible so on those day I will not stress but try again the next day.  Realistically, one a day for me will be much easier once the kids are back at school in February!

To make the task a little more achievable I have the pre cut papers from Paper Pieces.

 Today is my first day and I am pleased to say I have sewn my Hexie :)

I have decided to use my overflowing scrap baskets of Bonnie and Camille Fabrics.

A few weeks ago I received a surprise parcel in the mail from the Fat Quarter Shop.
It was a very exciting Happy Mail Day because when I opened the box it was full
of Planner goodies. Lori Holt Planner Goodies.

  

I am a planner girl so these are an amazing gift to receive.
It has pages for your Projects that you are planning, a weekly Planner. A section of tips and organisation, SIX patterns and then a room for notes.

I am going to record my hexies and have drawn up a little grid so I have a visual reference as to how good (or bad) I am going with my one a day :)




So far so good :)

My Bonnie and Camille Scrappy Pineapples

Playing with Pineapples again .....

This might just be one of my slowest growing machine pieced projects but I have upped the count from 5 to 8 pineapples and as you can see there is a colour change beginning to happen.

I am thinking that slow progress is better than no progress :)

Now I need to go scrap diving again so I can get to the next one.

Playing my my scrap bins - Pineapples anyone?

Pineapples Anyone?

You know when you see something online, instantly you love it but you scroll past because you have so much on the go but then you find your thoughts turning back to it. Well this happened to me nearly a week ago. I was scrolling Instagram as one does and Julie at Intrepid Thread had posed about a new tutorial over on her blog with the following image.

I knew that I wanted mine to be a scrappy Bonnie and Camille version as my scrap baskets are overflowing.  I am not sure that this will make much of a dent but I will try :)

I have set myself a little target of trying to make at least one a day.

Five days in and five blocks made, so far I am on track.

School holidays start today and the addition of this little cutie to our family last week might mean that I don't stay on track but I will try :)

Meet Elly,

For those of you who have been with me here for a while will know that we said goodbye to our last Pug, Molly, just on 4 1/2 years ago at the age of 16. It totally broke my heart. She was with me before I had my own kids and was the only constant in my life through a very hard time for a while there. 

The only pets we have had since have been fish! 

It was time to fix that as I was ready to love another Pug again and Miss Lily was becoming more fixated on dogs in general.  Hubby is more of a big dog person but oh well :)

 The breeder did warn me that Elly had the 'biggest personality' from the litter and that is true but in true Pug form she changes from a, lets just say, handful to a sleeping ball of Puggie fluff that looks like butter would not melt in her mouth.

Photo shoots will have a slight added degree of difficulty now ........

But I would not change that for a thing.

Expect to see more photos of Elly pop into my Instagram feed and here on my blog.

Time to prepare another block.

Quatro Colouring It!

Quatro Colouring

It feels like it has been so long since I have dived head first into my Bonnie and Camille scraps but this is what I have been doing recently.  Sometimes it is just a matter of finding the right project.

Sue Daley released a new pattern around Quilt Market time and I had the pleasure of seeing it in person and loved it. Initially I wanted to play in the same fabrics as Sue's but after finishing my "Southern Aurora Quilt" in those same fabrics I decided a change was needed and that Bonnie and Camille it would be :)

I started by "toe dipping" with this block. 

As it turns out, it was enough to make the commitment.

Some blocks will be fussy cut but that will depend on the scraps within my baskets.

Yes, my Bonnie and Camille scraps have their own baskets :)

I have started with red in the centre of my version and I will be graduating the colours as I work out and even throwing in a colour change.

I am using Riley Blake Solids in:-

Pepper

Raspberry

Sugar Pink

Penny

Aqua L

Bleached Denim

I am looking forward to the journey that this project will be taking me on.

I am also looking forward to my return to blogging :)
