Oh Dear Farmer

 

Farmer's Wife Quilt

 

 

To my Dearest Farmer,

It has taken me 17 months to get you from

this beautiful pile of fabric and templates

to where we are today :o)

 

At this stage I hurt my back :(

 

Which meant enlisting help from the kids to pick up and place blocks for me.

 

 

It also explains the crappy photos as no one was home and I couldn't get the

quilt hung/draped properly thus the puckering with the border due to the weight.

 

Final size is 78" square and it's made with 61 blocks.

It is now off to be hung in the WIR until I get around to quilting it.

Visiting the Farm

Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt

I went and visited my Farmer yesterday. 

We have had a bit of a break and I am trying to rekindle the romance.

I am not doing so well as our relationship is a little strained to say the least.

I made three blocks.

One went straight into the bin.

Here are the other two.

That takes my up to 61 blocks made

with 50 still to go if I am going to stick with making a Queen Sized Quilt.

Dear Farmer, It felt like the longest wait.

Do you remember this picture?

It is the digital mock-up of the fabrics (sashing and border) that I auditioned for my

Farmer's Wife Quilt.

I like how they looked and ordered them way back in early January.

Well guess what has EVENTUALLY arrived

I love them in real life too but now,

can someone please help me find my mo-jo for this project!

I have not really given it any thought.

Didn't even realise it was an option. 

But that doesn't surprise me as I am not a techno type of girl.

But after reading this **blogger Scare** post I figured there is no time like the present.

It is really simple to do.

If I can do it you can to, it is that easy.

The backup saves to your hard drive so if anything happens and your blog goes missing, you still have it to put back up :)

You can also save your template ... great idea, especially if you are like me and you keep tweaking your template :)

So if you have two minutes spare how about you go to

 the backup instructions here and backup your blog.

Farmer's Wife Quilt - Back to into it!

The Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-long had a break over December and January and it starting back up this week.  Amanda and Angela  have suggested that we post pictures of our blocks so far as we get back into it. So here are mine so far for a refresher :)

and here is the "mock-up" of a few blocks with the fabrics that I auditioned for the sashing and border.  The fabrics are slowly getting it way here from the US so hopefully they arrive soon.

So far I have made 57 of these 6" blocks, so  only 54 more to go.

My plan it to try and get two more cut out today and not slice the end off my finger again :(

Seeing to the future - Farmer's Wife

Auditioning Fabrics



With the half way mark being reached in this quilt-along my mind has again turned to the sashing and border fabrics.... I like to be organised and know where I am going with a project so, after an extensive on line search I have narrowed my options and with the help of technology I have managed to merge my blocks with two fabrics and I think I like the results, actually I LOVE the results.

I am getting a real buzz seeing what I have seen in my head for so long starting to come to life.

I am using Perennials by Kansas Troubles for the sampler blocks
and the sashing and border fabrics are from Cattails and Clover also by Kansas Troubles.

My quilt will be Queen Sized so that's 111 blocks coming in at 83" x 103" (approx 210 x 260cm)

By far, my largest project to date so I am trying not to think about how I will quilt it!

Farmer's Wife Progress

Farmer's Wife Overview

With the Farmer's Wife Quilt-along on a break until the end of January I thought that it would be a good chance to sit back and have a look at what I have completed thus far and see how the blocks are balancing out.

I have picked the fabric for the corner stones (the light print in the bottom left block in the first collage below) but I still need to make a decision on the sashing so please if you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know. I am not sure on a solid or print, what line of fabrics ... maybe another Kansas Troubles fabric?  Help ....

Here are all of the 57 block made so far.

That leaves me 54 to go so over half way.

Please, if you have any fabric suggestions for the sashing I would love to hear them.

Farmer's Wife Quilt Along

Wow it has been a while since I have worked on this project.

It seems like we are upto Week 25 ... WOW

I told myself last week that if I didn't do any work on it before the end of the month then it had to go onto my "Accountability / UFO list" and being that I have been making such good progress on that list I did not want the "Farmer" to end up there.

So here is my progress for this week.

As pictured

Block 51 - Hovering Birds, 53 - Jackknife, 55 - Linoeum

52 - Hovering Hawks, 54 - Kitchen Woodbox and 56 - Maple Leaf

and because on the quilt they will be set on point lets see how they look

That takes me up to 57 blocks completed and 54 to go, that's over half way.... YAY

I now need to look at this project a little differently, a bit like a pregnancy, I am no longer on the count up but the count down ....... (54, 53, 52 to go!)

A little quiet around here .........

Yes I know. My blog has gone a little quiet for the last few days after it went gusto for the few days before that. I am hoping now that it will return to "regular programming" and settle down a little. 

Why did it do this? For those who read my blog regularly will know that my dear brother-in-law passed away a bit over 2 weeks ago and finally we were able to lay him to rest and celebrate his life on Monday afternoon.  We are now back home and getting back into the swing of our daily life again.

School holidays are finished and the three eldest Children are back at school which now leaves Miss Lily to get back into the routine of only having me around most of the day!  Some days I feel a little greedy having her all to myself, she is such a pleasure to be around, always happy and such a girly girl :o)  Maybe I am just savouring every moment knowing that she is our last and I wont be doing this again.

Anyway...... what has been happening on the sewing front .............. a quick round up on the WIP's

Scandinavian Christmas - Need to purchase the backing fabric and finish it off.
Once Upon a Time - Whoops, I have two blocks to do on this one then back up to date.

I got to pick out the boarder fabrics for the outer boarders on this one yesterday so I have gone with pinks to make it all girlie for Miss Lily :o)

Vignette Mystery Quilt ..... Slow progress on Block 4

Farmer's Wife - Hmmm...... I need to clean off my cutting table and cut a couple more out.

Accountability Projects - 8 Christmas Place mats - I have finished off the raw edge applique of the names and have begun to quilt them.  I have purchased a Jelly Roll (arrived in the mail today .... yay) to use to make a scrappy binding so progress on this is well and truly happening.

This quilt (below) is not being cut up, it is going to have a boarder or two added down the track and finished off.

Scrap Busting Rainbow / Postage Stamp Quilt

I was going to use only scraps but have needed to purchase some more white as I have decided to add a wider white boarder and then finish off.  Hopefully this boarder will be on in the next day or two

64 Pieces .......

and Frustration at its Best!

See this little 6.5" Unfinished Block

It has 64 pieces in it and has been the cause of my frustration this afternoon!

It is Block No. 38 - "Four Winds" in the Farmer's Wife Quilt

and lucky for me it was the last of 13 blocks that I have sewn this afternoon.

If it was the first it would be the one and only :o(

On a brighter note, the Farmer and I are "back on again" ..... :o)

Here are the 13 blocks that I have done today

So far I have made 51 of the 111 Blocks for this quilt which equates to 45.9% so not quite half way.
