Friday Sewing - FNWF

I started earlier in the day by finish cleaning up the mess I made Thursday by rearranging my fabric
cupboard that was getting just a little out of control and could not fit these lovely purchases in :o)

First one is a FQ Bundle of "Florence" by Denyse Schmidt
Then a bundle of Sun Print Arrows and I can't believe it has taken me so long to get this one
but a bundle of Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie and Camille :o)

(It's been a REALLY good mail week )

So now all my patterns etc live in the Linen press in the laundry and my fabric plays happy here.

Getting a little side tracked here but with Bonnie and Camilles newest line "Scrumptious" about to hit the shops I've also made room for that FQ Bundle to fit when it arrives.  Also, have you seen the new line due for release in six months?  April Showers.  I am not totally sold on it yet but am loving some of the floral prints.  I had similar feelings over Happy Go Lucky, maybe its the addition of the navy again?  Me knowing me, I'll be adding a bundle to my little collection :o)

Back to FNWF :o)
I made a skirt for my cutting table.  Looks much better if you ask me as it hides all my crap stuff.

Then it was time to go out and watch on nail biting game of Basketball.
Aiden's team was playing in the Preliminary Final last night and they took it into Overtime.
I'm super excited to say they did it and next Friday night it's Grand Final time :o)

When we were back home and all settled in for the evening I started stitching my third one of these.
This time for me :o)  It is Gail Pans "Stitching Makes my Heart Happy" pattern which is a folder to keep Cottage Garden Threads in.  You can see mine patiently waiting to the right :o)

Enjoy your Saturday.

Washi Tape anyone?

How do you store you Washi Tape?

Up until now mine have lived in a box and I just don't seem to use them to their full potential.
It's a bit like, "out of site, out of mind".
So I've been Pinning a few ideas and then on Saturday I found myself in a recycling yard and I knew what Pinned Idea I wanted for my Washi Tape (see HERE)
Look what I found and only $2

So I gave Glenn the link (he likes little projects).
So a little undercoat and a top coat of white and ....

Tada ...... my new Washi Tape Storage System.

I LOVE how the tape pops on the white so you can see what you have.
I don't think I need anymore Red though.

It sits right here, ready to use and of course in all its Rainbow glory.  Now to add some of the missing colours ....... maybe I should go back and grab the other one as this one might fill up quickly!

A New Quilt is now a WIP!

That would be the Vignette in Stitches Mystery Quilt .... have you seen it?

I have been wanting to bite the bullet and start this one but have been procrastinating, There are so many wonderful versions of it appearing over on the VIGNETTE BLOG that I just didn't know what fabric to use, torn between the original and a more earthy country version.

I had been doing some looking around on the Internet for a while but was unable to find the complete range of the "Sweet Broderie" by Lecien and then I had to find the Basics .. it all seemed to hard ......

Well that was until went into one of the local Patchwork stores and low and behold what was sitting on the shelf ...... yay was this the final nudge that I needed ....... YES!!!!  lol   and would you believe it was in a store that normally stocks what I call the country fabrics, not the brights that this quilt was designed in!

So that bundle was mine ..... Now to get the rest and this was easier than I anticipated. I am now one very happy camper with a pile of eye candy on my cutting table!

I also like to be very organised and have discovered the storage boxes that Scrap Booker's can keep their paper in  (those who do Scrap booking - which I do not - will already know of these, but I didn't!) They work like a charm and are very reasonably priced .....

I'm off to get more now to store other WIP's in to keep them all organised.

Happy stitching,
Sharon

My Creative Space ...... Part 2

Three posts in one day....sorry about that but if I don't do this now whilst I have a quiet moment it may not get done :(

O.K. you have seen my temporary design wall so now back to that cabinet and trying to get some storage space into this Creative Space.  I love the Cabinet (In it's former life was a T.V. Unit!) it matches in with the rest of the house, which I have decided to keep with, especially being this creative space is all open and exposed to the rest of the house.

If I had a room all to myself, with a door that closes it off, it would be white, light and aerie, lots of bright containers, buttons, threads, ribbons and fabrics on show .....

a little opposite to what I am currently working with :o)

You can see that I have moved the table back against the wall (on the left side of this photo).  I must add that this table is super great to cut at now that the legs have been raised, so much easier on my back.  My computer and desk are in the back left corner with some fabric art above.  I have moved the cabinet on the opposite (front right had side of the picture) wall near the door.

This simple maneuver of  furniture has made a huge difference. The space feels more open and functional, not cramped and as dark as it was.

Now how to make the cabinet work for me .........

Empty ......

Next step was to start putting stuff in to see how
the space was going to work.

Hint .... leave for a week or more to get a real feel and
play with the layout.   Space down the bottom is intended
for fabric scarps, all sorted into colors.

Over a few days and the addition of my new GO! Baby last week for my birthday I had it looking like this ...

Top half ...... the fabric is driving me crazy!!!
I want to start building a Fabric Stash and this will not help me :(
Off to the Internet it was and with the purchase of this  ......

and the tutorial I found over here at That Girl .. That Quilt  it now looks like this

WOW.... WHAT A DIFFERENCE

I can now see what I have and "Shop at Home first"
This also helps me see where I need to start to build a working stash

The unit looks like this now ... with the addition of a few containers and some sorting of fabric scraps ....

My creative Space will constantly be a W.I.P. especially as I keep my eyes open for cute containers etc to make it MINE  :o)

I hope that these posts might provide some inspiration for someone like me, starting out, on a budget or has a space that is open within the house or just trawling the Internet for ideas.  I have found that I like to look around and see how other people have their creative spaces set up and here is my take on my space.

My Hexagon Quilt is looking like this and the kids need the table for breakfast in 12 hours so I have a little work to get done  before then.

Huge thank you for stopping by ....

Happy stitching, Sharon

My Creative Space ......

Is also a W.I.P ........ Part 1 of 2

I like to think of myself as an organised and sometimes somewhat of a neat obsessed person! Basically I like everything to have it's place.  Here in lies my problem with my "Creative Space".  I am very luck to have a second dining room all to myself, all I need to do now is work out the best way to have it work for me.

Storage is a huge problem as this area has NO STORAGE :o(  Also, this area is just off one of the lounge rooms, the one right near the front door so I have to keep is organised as there is no door to close, especially if we have visitors. On the up side though is the fact that we usually sit in the other lounge when we do have visitors but like I said I am a little obsessive and this space doe have three doors (all glass) that do allow people to see in  :o)

Here is what I will call a before photo. I took it after I cleaned it out a couple of weeks ago.

I then went and bought this off Ebay .....

I originally had it over near my computer with my table next to it.  Problem was it made the space feel cramped so I had to rethink.  In my rethink was also my desire for a design wall.
But wall space is at a minimum as I only have the one full wall and it has my sewing table in front of it.
This got me to thinking ...... sometimes this process hurts!!  :o)

I wanted something that would serve its purpose yet be put away (or out of sight) when required.

So I looked at this .......

Huge double doors... not a wall but has potential..
Added 3 hooks above the door frame
and a curtain rod

Off to Spotlight I went ......

A couple of metres of Wadding and a few pins later
and I have a Design Wall!!!

Not a perfect Design wall as it does require pins to make stuff stay there as there is no hard backing to push the blocks to to make them stay but for the time being it is an inexpensive solution and I now get to see if I will get the use from it. If so, watch out hubby as I have seen a portable one that you might just need to make for me!!!

And look what I put on it ..........

It is great to see how all the Farmer's wife blocks are going.

Hmmm.... this still did not sort out my storage and location problem for the unit.

Back later to show you what I did there as Miss L has just woken and needs breakfast.

Happy stitching,
Sharon
