It's a finished top - Glacier Star

Glacier Star
Foundation Pieced

I did it!
My Glacier Star is a finished Quilt Top.

I was counting how many pieces were in this but lost count at 1628.

You will have to excuse the photos as being all foundation pieced it still has some (well maybe more than just "some") papers still on the back.  They will be for another day :o)

I LOVE all the points in this quilt.

I have also enjoyed looking back through some of the photos taken whilst making this one.
From my vision and the Fabric selection

To all the blocks taking shape.

Learning that curves are achievable but still not loving the process of making Flying Geese.

This quilt is my first play with Batiks and will not be my last.
I have something BIG in the planning, more on that soon :o)

For now this will sit and wait to have the remaining papers removed and then be sent off to be professionally quilted. Then I think it is destined for a wall.

Glacier Star - Friday Night with Friends

Last night was "Friday Night with Friends"
being hosted by the lovely Cheryll over at "Stitching Cubbyhole"

Knowing that I would be out last night I scheduled in some sewing time
during the day.  My sewing involved sewing one seam three times and using the
seam ripper twice. I nearly stopped but did persevere.

This "Glacier Start" top is not going to come together in a hurry.
I think Slow and steady with be applied to this one :o)

Thank you for hosting Cheryll.

Glacier Star Update

"Glacier Star"

I am very pleased to say that the 16 Flying Geese Units that I have been working on for this quilt are now finished.

It takes a bit of work to get them looking like that (above).
Instead of this below.

This adds another 384 pieces to this quilt.
Currently it is all laid out on the floor and the family have been told to stay clear as I start to think about the curved piecing and "y" seams that await me.  I am not ready to share what it looks like just yet.
Might have to save that for the final reveal but to say I am happy with it is a little understated. :)

Here is a sneak peak I posted to Intstagram. It has a filter applied so the colours are not "true" in this pic.

Anyone interested in sewing these curves and "y" seams for me?

Finishing my Homework

"Glacier Star"
Homework from class Saturday that would be :)

Then set to adding them to these

Then I decided to keep putting them up to see how things are looking/

Above would the the normal "edited" blog photo but below is what I am really dealing with :o)

This was the shot before Lily decided she wasn't being noticed enough and started jumping on the couch!
Right about here the call went out Glenn to grab some more Blue tack on his way home and the couch was pushed to the other wall :)

and a more "sedated" pose for the camera ... love this kid :o)

Here is what my Quilt looks like now.  I LOVE it!

Now for an update on pieces.
Last count was 520 but as at the photo above I'm up to 736.

Next up is a "Circling Geese Border" which also means a LOT of curves (and pieces).
All these pieces to be exact.

That is going to be a lot of curved geese blocks.

Enjoy your Tuesday,
hugs Sharon

Glacier Star Class

This afternoon I got to spend time with like minded ladies at my LQS for the next Glacier Star Class.  Before   I get to that thought look at this.

This beauty is hanging in my LQS this month and it is taunting me :)  I am sure that we all have a Wedding Ring Quilt in us but my question is, will this one be mine?  It is called "Bali Wedding Star"

Each arc is a graduation of colour from light to dark.  It is stunning.

OK Blogger is taunting me now and wont put this pic the right way :( but here is my progress from today's class.  Still a little more to go but not bad progress for an afternoon I think.

I have finished and trimmed them since getting home.

and here is how things look at the moment.  I still have to do the other side of points and am feeling rather thankful that it is the shorter side :)

Here is one of the other ladies progress. I am loving the pop of orange.

I am unable to attend the next class so I am not allowing myself to cut into this tempting pile that arrived this week until I have done the work required for the next class.  Which is "only" 24 curved flying geese blocks plus borders (and I put the word "only" in that sentence ... silly me)

Hope you had a great Saturday. I might go see if I have a little more in me to start the other side blocks.

Glacier Star - Progess

Glacier Star

Yesterday it was time to head back to my LQS for the next class.
Technique 4 was tackled this time.

I made the block on the left (x8) at class Saturday and made the
block on the right (x8) this morning.

Then it was time to join them together.

I LOVE how the center is looking - all 144 pieces!
This section is only 15.5" across.

It is getting hard to get it all in one pic now but here is a progress pic.

(Bad light too as it is trying hard to rain here)

All 520 pieces now!

Hope you are having a great Sunday.
hugs, Sharon

Glacier Star Progress

If you are a regular reader you would know that I attended
my LQS on Saturday to work on the next technique on my

Glacier Star Quilt.

It felt like a very productive day because by
the time it came to pack up, my blocks looked like this.

I am loving how it is coming together.
The picture below is the inspiration that I used for my colour selection.

The next technique sees us working on the center.
Sooooo many small pieces!

I will take my camera with me next time and hopefully get some pictures of the other
ladies quilts. One lady is working with William Morris fabrics and OMG
it is stunning.

Friday stitching

Yesterday I added the final stitches to my
Sew Laugh Love

and with a quick iron :o)

Since this photo I have attached the borders and sewn on the buttons
but I will save that for the final reveal :o)

Just need to go and buy a canvas and a staple gun to get this one over the line.

Have you seen Gail Pan's new book "Simply Christmas"
Mine has arrived and I love it. Love it so much that I started
my first project from it last night.

and here is how far I got.
The first of four started.

I think he is supper cute :o)

Today I am off to my LQS for my next Glacier Star Class.

This could be dangerous.
Nicky has just got in 24 bolts of Liberty fabrics
........  I will try to resist.
Also, the last time I did this class I came home to work on my blocks
and chopped the end of my finger off with my rotary cutter.
It looks fine now but still a little numb.

Have a great weekend,
hugs Sharon

Saturday, 16 March 2013

One of those days!

All started well.

Baking a cake for Miss Lily's party tomorrow.
Then I ran out of cake mix and sent Glenn out to get another.
Proved to be a difficult task as they were sold out of the one
I wanted in multiple supermarkets, what's the chances of that
happening, seriously?

So I had to settle for a strawberry cake verses vanilla.
More will be evident when I show you the cake next post.

My sewing Mojo is still MIA but I sucked it up and went to my LQS
this afternoon for my Glacier Star Class.
All I will say is "reverse sewing"- such a waste of time.
Needless to say Miss Mojo didn't show up.

That's OK.
I get home and Glenn has a Leg of Lamb in the oven.
Yum Yum Yum.

So after that I thought I had better go and do these Glacier Star
blocks to get this technique in my head.

I think this next picture taken at the ER explains it all!

Yes the blade was new.

So off to the ER it was.

Washed, glued, bound and finished with a needle, oh Yeah!
(Blood thinning injections and this injury don't mix well and I am kind
of over needles at the moment)

On the up side, no washing dishes for me for the next 5 days :o)

Here are the blocks that I was working on.

I had finished 8 of these

but only got this far on these.

They will eventually go together like this.

Better go, party planning still to do and I have just lost a few hours.

Have a better day than me :o)

hugs, Sharon

Back to School

Glacier Star
Technique of the Month Class

I spent a little time yesterday afternoon at my LQS

and I got to play with these

a little cutting and pasting and I have my colour card.

I now have a little homework to do before we go back in two weeks
with our Sewing Machines for the nitty gritty fun and sewing :o)

Before I go, some eye candy
"Scrumptious"
the new fabric line from Bonnie and Camille
due out in September.

Is it September yet?
No :(  are you sure?
oh bugger! lol

Have a great day,
hugs, Sharon
