Simple Things Quilt Along

Progress at last ......

Fabrics all gathered ... a little late, but better late than never!

Step 4 is about to go up soon so I had a bit of catching up to do.  First all the cutting

I must admit, with the pieces being so small I thought that I had chosen the wrong quilt to make :(
but I stuck with it and I am glade that I did :)

I love the way they are coming together and they are so cute at only 4 1/2"

Then a little more sewing last night, the family was all in bed so it was just me up,
sewing and watching the tennis.

And now I have this .............

I am looking forward to the next step :)
It's still not too late to joint so jump on over to the Quilt Along
and join in or just take a look at how the other girls are doing.

Happy stitching,
Sharon

Oh no... It has been calling and I have decided to give it a go.  After all it is only a commitment of two blocks a week for a year with a total of 111 blocks.  I am new to quilting so I figured that this will be good for me to build some skills with.

I have ordered the book and am patiently waiting for its arrival.  The ladies in the  Farmer's Wife group are into week 4, or is it 5 so I have a little catching up to do.

Some of the ladies in the group had me laughing with all their comments that perhaps they couldn't quite live up to being a Farmer's Wife....(remember 111 blocks).....so they may just end up being the Farmer's Girlfriend or some even a Mistress!  Being just a girlfriend sounds good to me!

"In 1922, The Farmer's Wife magazine posed this question to their readers: "If you had a daughter of marriageable age, would you, in light of your own experience, have her marry a farmer?" The magazine at that time had 750,000 subscribers, and received over 7,000 letters. The best answers to this question are included in this book, along with the traditional quilt blocks they inspired."

The book is supposed to be really interesting and I am looking forward to the reading and the sewing involved with this one.

If you have ever thought about being a Farmer's Wife ..... girl friend or just living on the land why not take a look. It is not to late to join in the fun.

And it's a finish!

I set myself one task to complete this weekend and I have done it!!!!

My task was to complete my "Green Farm Village" Quilt Top

As for Quilting it ........ hmm... need to think about that one for a little bit.

So pleased with my progress but I'm off now to do a little More work on my Birdie Stitches - assembling the blocks and then must get stuck into my Scandinavian Christmas block before the next one arrives.

I'm also working on two more Reborns for Ebay so keep your eyes open fr them in the coming weeks.

Enjoy what is left of the weekend,

Happy Stitching,
Sharon

Birdie Stitches ~ Up to date!

I started this BOM a little late but "better late than never" for this very cute stitch along :)
There were 6 blocks out before I started. Above I only have 5 as one was basically all words and that's just not me so I had to set to creating my own for that month.

Well here they are and aren't they just so Cute :)

Stitched on a basic Grey and surrounded with Sunkissed .... love this fabric

Below - Block 1

Below - Block 2

Below - Block 3

Below - Block 4

Below - Block 5
The original block had a lot more flowers so this is my take on it :)
Below - Block 6
This is nothing like the original. It had all words.
So this is my total remake :)

It is not to late to join in the fun on this one so pop over to Little Miss Shabby's blog and take a look.

I'm looking forward to the next block to be released on the 1st!

Happy stitching,
Sharon

Vignette Inspired Hexagon Quilt ~ Sunkissed

Here is my Hexagon Quilt inspired by Vignette.

I have never made anything like this and was not sure I could stick with the hand piecing so I went for a larger Hexagon :o)

I still have to finish off some of the white Hexies with embroidery.

I have squared off the quilt, great throw size.

At this stage I think that I am adding a white border and possibly embroidering flowers all
the way around.  Well that is the plan at this moment in time.

I fell in love with the sunkissed range as soon as I saw it so knew it would be just perfect for this project.

I will try to get back and show you the progress on my Gollie Quilt

Happy stitching,
Sharon

Sunday Sport

Wow....what a cold start to the day.  Off bright dull and early to get son no 2 to the football.  You could not see from one side of the oval to the other but just before the siren went at the start of the first quarter, if by magic the fog lifted!  Got to love the winter sports :)  The boys tried hard again, but this season is just not theirs, only one goal scored in the last quarter.  Keep hanging in there boys.

Then off to the Basket ball ..... spectators this time round to see the Bendigo Braves play at home.  Great game, fantastic win and we all love going.  This week it was dress in your fav team colors, what ever the sport to win a NBA Guernsey.  Doesn't our little 2 year old look cute (much to Dad's disgust, he is a die hard Collingwood Fan but will have to send this photo to her grandfather as he will love it!) all dressed up in her big brothers top :)

Oh No not another project!!!

Oh yes I have done it again .......  I have a fabric addiction, what else can I say?

OK lets start with a progress report.  During the week I finished off Miss K's quilt that she designed :o) with the help of a few magazine's, my stash of 5" squares and our large kitchen table.  She spend many hours laying out the fabric and coming up with the layout (ensuring that two of the same fabric did not touch .... that I fear she has got from me :s ) and I did the rest for her. Oh, and then she wanted to add all the hearts that had to appliqued on.....and stitched by hand :) What do you think?  I am very proud of her and think its a great quilt designed by a then 8 y.o.  Well done Miss K xx

My Green Farm Village quilt rec'd a lot of attention this week with me doing a lot of cutting and piecing.
The blocks started something like this ........

then I added a bit of this .......

I now have this, but still have to do these (below), two borders and then think about the quilting :)

Last night I decided to grab out my "12 Days of Christmas" Layer Cake and get a start on some Christmas sewing  ..... place mats ...... I need 8 for my table so that's one each for us and of course one for Santa and Rudolf ;)   They will have red binding and all the names will be blanket stitched.

Whilst looking at what was left of the layer cake I decided that I also needed a centre piece for the table and so far I have come up with this ........ a 10 min block with only three straight seems ..... loving it!!!!  :)

LOOK WHAT POSTIE DELIVERED THURSDAY
I love the look of this one so I decided that I just had to have it.
It is "Scandinavian Christmas" by Lynette Anderson. I know that she has a new range of fabrics coming out later this year that suits this BOM perfectly but me being me I couldn't wait .... maybe I will have to make it twice :)

and this is what I have done already.

Lastly, I have been thinking about doing the Birdie Stitches BOM over at Little Miss Shabby for a while now and have decided to start ........ I found some Sunkissed Charm Squares at a great price so I no longer had a excuse not to start :)

Enjoy your weekend, I'm off to sort out lunch for the kids and then find a nice quiet corner near the heater and start (or should that be finish) stitching something!

Happy stitching, Sharon

Simple Things Quilt Along

How exciting ... I have decided to join my FIRST Quilt Along

Kelly of Charming Chatter and Carol of Brown Quilts have got together and come up with two beautiful quilts and are hosting a quilt along for anyone who wants to join in.

Both quilts are lovely but I have decided to do the smaller one.

This is a picure of Kelly’s (The smaller one)

I have not decided what fabrics I am using yet ..... Off to do that now so I will keep you posted.

Thank you ladies, I am so looking forward to this one.

Happy stitching,
Sharon

Time to Share

I thought that I would share some of my recent creations in my quilting world.

This is a wall hanging now displayed in our living area :)

This Appliqued Quilt was made just in time for my 2 year olds move from a cot to a "big bed".
I love how it turned out.

Now I just need to make a pillow for the bed to match.

I  love the crochet Rug in her room but I can not take credit for it. It was made by a lovely lady in Queensland. My other daughter has a similar purple one in her room :)

This quilt I made for my sweet little Nephew Liam for his Second Birthday.
Happy Birthday Liam xx
This is the last block I have completed on my "Green Farm Village" Quilt by Teddlywinks
I have a couple more to do then I can start the piecing ... so close but still a little more to go yet!
I hope to post some more photo's of this one soon.

I'm off now to sew the binding on a quilt that my 9y.o. designed some time ago. I have only pulled it out of the "to do pile" this week and decided it's time to finish it so she can see her creation completed.

Until next time, take care and happy stitching,
Sharon
