Sunday Sewing = Flimsy

It is amazing how a few posts on Instgram by  Megan, Brenda and Rita 

late last year and one hash tag can really take off.

 

I find myself reaching for the Ipad just to check out the hash tag

to see what everyone has been up to

 

I am excited to say that my scrap boxes are a little lighter now

and I have completed 36 blocks!

 

 

I did find putting these blocks together a little challenging.

The construction was easy, it was the fabric selection I struggled with.

I think I can do scraps and Rainbow but struggle with "Scrappy Scraps"

if you know what I mean. They scare scared me.

 

I gave up laying all the blocks out and seeing my progress

 as I was not liking what I saw. I just gave in to random selection,

made the blocks and hoped that in the end I would

have the look I was after .....

 Scrappy and not to much yuck factor.

 

So what do you think?

I think, I like it a LOT :)

 

But what to use as a Backing and the binding?

I'm thinking a solid,

Need to think about this for a bit more though so for now

it is now off to hang with some other Flimsy's.

 

So that was this mornings sewing, as for the afternoon.

Here is a hint :o)

 

 

and I am using a decorative stitch.

Something I've not done before

What I have been up to?

3 days into the new year and I am playing with scraps.
In a major way. Want to see?

I have been bitten by the #srappytripalong bug
that has spread like a wildfire across Instagram and Flickr.
I made 4 blocks the first night

 

Then made 8 more on Wed (yesterday) so that takes me to 12

 

and I have dug all these out of my scrap containers.

 

I am looking forward to playing with them later today.

 

 

I have also sorted all the left over / scrap fabric from my

Merry Merry Snowman Quilt

 

 

and now that my Vignette Quilt does not live in my table in the

lounge room I have this set up for my night time sewing.

This is almost how I left it last night as I did remove the empty coffee cup

before taking this pic :o)

 

 

I am starting with round and pointed 2"  Dresden's.

Each one will be appliqued onto a square.

Not sure where it will go or what it will turn into.

All will depend on how far the scraps go.

I do plan of picking up bigger Dresden's next time I am at my LQS 

 

(Thank you for this sewing set Shez, it is perfect for keeping everything

for this project handy in the lounge)

 

 

Speaking of Shez :) do you remember that she gave me this book

in our Christmas Swap.

 

 

I have also started a project from it and am only using Scraps again.

Right down to batting scraps.

 

Here are my new Scrap containers :)

 

Much more inspiring that the boring plastic tubs hidden in the linen press!

It will mean that I will have to "claim" more shelves on the book case.

Looks like the boys books are destined for their room.

Just as well they are away. I might be able to do that without them

noticing too much :o)

 

I have made these bigger than in the book. Mine are 8" x 9" and then 9" tall.

Huge, you should see how much fits in them.

So that's 3 done and about 7 to go.  They might be on hold though until

I get my #srappytripalong top done :o)

 

So there you have it, three new projects, all using scraps.

If this does not bust my scrap collection nothing will!

Have you heard about the

 Scrappy Trip Along?

 

 There are photos popping up all over Instagram

(lilabellelane if you want to add me)

 

As you know I like to make at lest one scrap quilt a year and lets face it,

my Scrap quilt from last year (Bottled Rainbow), although it looks great, it didn't really use

up a lot of my scraps so this one is going to make up for that shortfall.

I also have another Scrap quilt on my to do list this year, so who knows

it might be a bit of a "Scrappy Year".

 

Anyway, back to the Scrappy Trip Along :O)

With all the photos popping up and my desire to use my scraps,

because lets face it, why save them if you don't use them?

I have jumped in head first.

 

 Each block is 12" finished and I have no idea how big I am

going to make mine.  At the moment I am thinking it would

be  great Picnic Quilt so it might be large :o)

 

Here are my first 4 blocks

 

 

I only started mine tonight and I apologise for the dodgy night time photo.

I already had my scrap boxes out working on something else (I will share soon)

so now their contents are well and truly all over the floor!

The three eldest children are off on a little Train trip tomorrow to go see their Grandparents for a few days so hopefully I will have a chance to get some more blocks made whilst they are away. I am sure Lily will keep me busy until 5pm each day, then when Dad gets home she will focus on him and I can sneak off to my sewing space :o)  Sounds like a plan right?
