First Survival ....one of the first quilts I ever made has never been washed!
Why?
Because it was made from Bonnie and Camilles "Ruby" line.
In other words ...... red fabric!
I was too scared and up until 5 minutes ago I was regretting my decision to wash it.
but I am now pleased to say, all is good.
As you can see, the colour catchers are a nice crisp white, well there were before the wash.
If I didn't put them in with this quilt all that colour would have been over all that crisp white and the light blue back. What made my heart beat even faster was whilst this quilt was going around in the washing machine I read over on Christine's Blog that a beautiful quilt she has just washed ran :( does anyone have any remedies to help Christine get the colour out? If so please pop on over and let her know.
I will never wash a quilt now without a few of these being in there with the quilt.
My second survival?
Miss Lily's first day of school.
So big yet still so little.
Feeling a little sentimental I have been back to the beginning of my blog and found theses pictures.
Some of the first ones I ever posted of my baby girl back in July 2011.
They really do grow up way to quickly.
hugs Sharon xx
Glad your quilt survived its wash. Your daughter looks very cute in her uniform. Hugs.......
ReplyDeleteSo happy your quilt came out ok and you had the colour grabby thingies in with it! Wow Miss Lily looks so grown up! Hope she had a great day!

It's always stressful washing a quilt for the first time, but even more so with red! I have bought some Kona Chinese Red to a quilt and I am definitely washing it BEFORE I cut it and piece it!
ReplyDeleteSew pleased the colour catchers did there job. I swear by them. Sorry ant help Christine.
ReplyDeleteMiss Lily looks very grown up in her uniform....
Miss Lilly looks so grown up. Glad you had success with the washing of a quilt.
ReplyDeleteAlways, always, always wash red and black fabrics. Also homespun. Also pretty much any cheap fabric especially if they are deep colours. Bonnie & Camille should never have run - its a good quality fabric at premium prices. There is a product made by Dylon - http://www.dylon.com.au/fc-coloursafe.htm
ReplyDeleteHope that helps
I would be complaining bitterly to the Bonnie & Camille manufacturers.
ReplyDeleteGlad the quilt washed well.....my what a poppet! How quickly they grow!
ReplyDeleteSo very pleased the quilt wasged out...and Miss Lily how cute....
ReplyDeletewell done on surviving Lily's first day at school.
ReplyDeleteI would have been a little scared washing that quilt so glad it all worked out ok, must keep an eye out for that product.
So glad your quilt survived the wash, I use colour catchers too. I hope Miss Lily had a wonderful first day. Being a mum is such an emotional gig!
ReplyDeleteSo glad nothing happened, Sharon. I've learnt my lesson and will never wash a quilt again (not that I do it very often) with catchers in the wash! Miss Lily looks so grown up. I hope she had a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteThe years sure do fly by. Bet Lily loved her first day. Always nerve racking washing quilts
ReplyDeleteoh how adorable is that girl! I'm glad you survived. I am yet to get there but have had a major issue in that we can't find Lily's new school dress! Lucky of have one of Charlotte's old ones for the big day. She was trying it on a couple of times before Christmas, then Dad passed away and I just let her do her own thing in her room. - can't find it now! ooops. I started using those colour catchers recently too. They are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLucky to have the colour catchers. I must buy some. Lily looks adorable.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear the colour catches worked well. Also congrats to both you and Lily on a great day.
ReplyDeleteColour catchers are the beast thing since sliced bread
ReplyDeleteMiss Lily looks very grown up
Thanks for the tip,the quilt on my bed is ruby. You can get colour run remover ,I'm told it's pretty good.
ReplyDeleteMiss Lily looks a picture, they grow up very fast once they start school.I bet she is very excited.xx
Oooooo she is so cute! Yes, time does go very fast indeed. Treasure it. As for the colour running, I heard a lady on the radio who is an expert in all household remedies and she was saying to use the colour run remover but not to follow the directions. To add it to a bucket of water, double the strength.i.e 2 packs to the bucket or one pack to half a bucket of water. Do, you wash your fabrics before using them? Glad everything turned out well with your quilt. Whew!
ReplyDeleteShe is such a cutie...then and now...and a big school girl too! Yes... time fly's by!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip for anyone washing RED quilts... :)
My heart was ponding why I was reading your blog entry.... o no had the red run ...keep calm... keep reading... relief... glad to hear all is well.. thanks for sharing the tip... Miss Lily looks so sweet and all grown up ... and so excited
ReplyDeleteAren't those color catchers just the best? I usually wash my quilts, and right away...I always get worried too! The only quilt that I ever had bleeding colors with was one I made with batiks...not a batik girl very often anymore :). Your daughter is a cutie pie!
ReplyDeleteFantastic things to safeguard our quilts. A big day for a young girl and her Mum x
ReplyDeleteWell done on both counts
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a great first day of school!
ReplyDeleteGreat news on the colour catchers working!!
I'm so glad you survived your two huge events. Colour Catchers are one of the best inventions ever!
ReplyDeleteGlad you survived those two milestones Sharon.
ReplyDeleteWishing Miss Lily a happy, successful year at school.
Cheers R.
