Progressing and "My way"

more Best Friends Forever BOM

Here are stitched hexies no 5 and 6

I have also made a few more of the plain hexies.

I have had a few emails asking me about my hexies.  Some very observant ladies have noticed that my hexies  "appear fuller" or "don't look as thin as the shop sample they have seen" so allow me to share how I am constructing mine :o)  By memory the pattern calls for Parlan to be used throughout. Parlan is a thin iron on batting. I love it and use it behind ALL my stitchery projects. (I get my Parlan from HERE in case your interested)  I am also using quilt batting/wadding.

Above - Hexie Templates, Batting cut into Hexies and my Parlan Stash

It is a little hard to see but if you look closely you can see the thin Parlan ironed onto the back of this panel.

OK, so I iron on the Parlan and stitch away. When finished I trim and layer - stitchery - batting - fabric.
For the "plain" hexies I go -  fabric - batting - fabric
The batting/wadding, I feel is adding a nice weight and feel to my hexies.

So this is how I am doing mine. Hope this answers any questions.
Enjoy your Thursday,
hugs Sharon

  2. Your blocks are fabulous! From memory the parlan is relatviely thin and while lovely for stitching with the extra layer of batting is a great idea.

  4. More beautiful hexies. I can't imagine them without wadding. They must be pretty thin with just the other stuff.

  16. I am going to add batting as well as I think they need it to make it more padded. Are you going to add some extra quilting to the plain ones or leave it as is? Hugs......
