AURIFIL ARTISAN CHALLENGE | meet molly

This year Aurifil Threads have set a series of challenges for their Artisans and as an Artisan we have the choice of which challenges we sign up for. The November challenge was a bag making!  Something a little outside of my comfort zone and the exact reason I choose to be a part of this one.

Aurifil partnered with Sallie Tomato to choose our pattern from and Therm-o-web would be supplying the interfacings. I teamed my pattern selection, 'Molly' with bag hardware in a gunmetal finish, gold fleck cork and two prints from Anna Maria's Conservatory Chapter Three "Wild" and all my topstitching was done using Aurifil 28wt in #2326 on my Brother Innovis VQ3000 sewing machine.

When it came to assembling the final bag some spots became quite thick with all the layers and my sewing machine took it all in her stride and I love the look of the Aurifil 28wt thread for the top stitching.

The gold fleck in the cork is subtle but when the light hits it, it give it just the right amount of bling!

I absolutely love how this bag has turned out and yes, before you ask, I did fussy cut the front and back panels.

On the inside I have added an extra swivel hook for my car keys and a "handmade" tag to the front to finish it all off.

Not bad for a Saturday sewing session even if I do say so myself!  I am looking forward to adding this bag to my rotation of handmade bags.

Thank you Aurifil for the challenge, I have enjoyed my day sewing something a little different to what I would normally sew and I am looking forward to the next challenge.

Happy stitching,
Sharon x

This week ....

Not very often that I go nearly a week between posts.
Here is an update of what's been happening this week in the sewing department.

I made a new pencil case for Keegan for her return to school Monday.

Term 4 already ..... yikes!
(Sorry if it scares some - including me - but I've added a Christmas countdown
to my blog ..... just over there on the right)

This is a secret squirrel project so this is all I can show at the moment.
It is now finished and will be listed on my OPAM list as "Secret Squirrel 1"

Full reveal will be at a later date. I LOVE it, hope the recipient does.

I've also been slowing working at my Vintage / Liberty Spools Quilt
and can tick another 14 Spool blocks off the to-do list.

I love the birds on this one :o)
(Off track a little here, but.....)
Wednesday night we gave these a go.

The first item I've been tempted to buy from the show (Recipes to Riches) and have since been back to the supermarket to get some for the freezer for our next Pizza night.

This kid loves being in the kitchen.  We are making cookies later today :o)

I've finished another hexie for my Best Friends Forever BOM

Started a new bag .......

  and a Christmas project.

I've also realised that since Football season has finished I don't have a project ready to grab as I run out the door so I've found myself admiring the Tulips in town (Bendigo) between appointments this week.

They were a little wind burnt but still beautiful. Tulips would have to be my favourite flower.

But then when it came to Basketball practice ..............

Yep, taking pictures of your feet is not that exciting! (a good chance to show off my Tat, yes) lol
I think I really need to find a portable project to grab as I run out the door this summer :o)

Super Tote

My Super Tote
designed by Noodlehead (made by me) is finished.

I get a real kick out of picking fabrics with a plan in mind and having it work.

I added some Diamond quilting to the gusset and a Dragon Fly to the front pocket to finish it off.

It is fully lined, the zip allows it to open super wide and has 4 great big internal pockets.
I even added a clip for the car keys :)

If you would like to make your own the pattern can be purchased from HERE
Fresh Poppy Design
Now if you are heading to Friends in Stitches next month and see this bag make sure you come up and say Hi :o)
