Green Tea and Sweet Beans

I have been busy working on the next lot of blocks for my Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt.

These are the blocks I have so far.

 Now it's time to prep some more.

I laid out my "Lucy Boston Blocks" yesterday.

I am trying to make a decision on the colour of fabric to use for the 1" square blocks that will join these together.  Any suggestions?  So far I keep going from Burgundy to a Coffee colour.

oh, and I went into my LQS today to pick up my copy of Vignette 

and these pretties also came home with me.

Strange how that happens ....

Dear Miss Lucy

I have been playing with my 

"Lucy Boston - Patchwork of the Crosses"

blocks again.

These do become very addictive and I am sure that if I could find a thimble that I was comfortable with I would have made more by now but I have to keep stopping as the pain from the blunt end of the needle going through the end of my finger just gets a bit much :(

I set myself up for a little lunch time stitching earlier in the week.

(Home made Potato and Leek Soup - upside of this cooler weather)

I managed to prepare three more blocks and then decided to start adding the next ring to a block to see how my idea of the many different tone on tone fabrics were going to look.

I like it ..... a lot.  Only downside, there are just as many pieces in that outside

 ring as there are in the center.

48 in total :o)

Lots of in car stitching in my future with the football season starting.

Declyn is also Umpiring this year which means another "in car stitching" season

 has been added to my week.

Miss Boston

I have revisited my

"Lucy Boston - Patchwork of the Crosses Quilt"

this weekend and finished off another two blocks.

I am now up to 12 blocks and with the start of football season here and the impending time to be spend in the car watching No 2 son play I need a hand sewing project to take with me and as such I have given some thought as to what I will use for the next round on each of these blocks. I have decided that a mix of Tone on tone fabrics in white and cream.  So far I have 16 different fabrics.

Now to prep them and have then ready to go.

Revisiting ......

Scandinavian Rose

So far I have only finished the first two blocks so a few days ago I dug it all out

to try and work out what I'm doing with this project.

I added the next two blocks to help me decided if I should just settle on a 

smaller wall hanging or commit to the full quilt and after a few positive and encouraging

comments on IG I have decided to give it another go.  I have now completed Block 3 and

started Block 4.

I have taken a little break from my Lucy Boston thanks to the blunt end of the needle going through

the end of my finger a few to many times .... ouch. I have competed one more block which takes me to 10 Blocks.

  The fabrics that I purchased during the destash on IG recently

have arrived and I am looking forward to playing with them.

In other news, these guys are going off on a little adventure for a few months.
Hope they behave themselves :)

and these arrived in my mail box yesterday.  Issue 2 should only be a day or two away.

I think that this might actually be my first magazine subscription. A nice, refreshing and modern magazine.

Lucy Boston

"Patchwork of the Crosses"

I have been drawn to this quilt for some time.

Lucy Boston was born in England in 1892, and lived to be 98 years old. 

She designed and made at least twenty amazing patchworks in her long

life, but she is more famous as the author of the 

Green Knowe children's books, for her ancient manor house 

and garden near Cambridge in England, and for her long, creative old age.

Lucy Boston published her first books when she was in her sixties, and she continued to write, sew, and garden when she was in her nineties. She was an extraordinary person, and still inspires affection and admiration today.

 Then on our recent holiday I saw this in the window of Periwinkle Patchwork.

On my first visit I purchased the pattern and some papers. I found myself reading the history and pattern over and over again that night so I returned to the shop the net day and asked for a starter kit.  

21 F8's later and I was ready to go.

Not my usual fabric choices and I did consider using modern fabrics over the Civil War Reproduction Fabrics but decided to stick with what attracted me to this quilt in the first place.

So since being home I have been playing with my blocks and fussy cutting.

After looking online I obviously have a lot to learn and to be inspired by when it comes to fussy cutting.

These are my first 4 blocks

This will be another long term project for me as I don't have any Civil War fabrics in my stash.

I am also thinking about using lots of different light tone on tone fabrics and shirting fabrics for the next ring around these blocks

It's now time to restock the papers as I've run out already!
