Slow going ....

Soda Pop - Rainbow Slushee

My Soda Pop quilt is all basted and I am going through the motions of quilting it!
Not necessarily enjoying the quilting process on this one.
I think it has something to do with the curves :(

I will stick with it as I love the way this one looks.
I think that the backing that I have chosen in nice and bold to!
Black with white polka dots ..... Love It! :o)

Not to much else happening on the sewing front but I did manage to
get in on this one this morning

Orange / Aqua / Grey Mystery Charm Swap

Imagine the possibilities

Enjoy your evening,
I'm off to do the tea dishes and think about getting
back to a few more rows of quilting curves :o)

Celebrations, rethinks and a bit of progress

Celebrations, rethinks and a bit of progress?
Witty titles are not my strong point at the moment :(

Miss Keegan celebrated her 10th Birthday yesterday.

Rainbow cake of sorts - yummy Vanilla and Chocolate
so the girls and I went out for lunch in town.
Thank you dear Primary School for having a pupil free day for Keegan's birthday!

We had a lovely lunch in a little Italian restaurant, just the three of us
and then we enjoyed some retail therapy ... 10 year old style!
Clothes, clothes and more clothes and the icing on the cake .... a One Direction Poster.

Happy Birthday Miss Muppet, So pleased you had a fantastic day xx
(I am still trying to work out where the last 10 years have gone)

My Favourite Things - SKOW

Not far to go now.

and the rethink?

Late last year I was in a Christmas Charm Square Swap.
When they arrived I started to sew up a picnic rug but never finished it.

I don't know what I was thinking, then or now because I started doing this at the weekend

and now I have this

104 5" charm square ready to go AGAIN
Now what to do with them?

I am trying to finish off a few things so that I can start a few more
(my attempt at being disciplined) I am also stalking my inbox as this is just about to start

and I am so looking forward to it.

Off now, it is not quite 10am, it's blowing a gale and I think I need to light the fire
and find something to help my sore throat and pounding head.
Once I get that under control I might be able to sneak back into my sewing space :o)

Oh, one last thing, see at the top of my Blog on the right hand side.
It's my Blogoversary very soon. Do you feel like a little give away?
OK, let me see what I can do :o)

Rainbow Charm Square Swap

This is proving to be a  lot of fun.
Waiting to see if postie delivers any parcels and if so how many
and then the excitement of opening them up.

Then watching the rainbow grow.......

From this ...... to this ....

and still a couple of more parcels to arrive in the mail before I get to send "rainbows" back out to all the lovely ladies who have made this swap so much fun and such a success.

I am even considering hosting another in the new year if there is enough interest.
Priority will be given to the ladies who have taken place this time around but if you are interested just drop me an email to lilabellelane@optusnet.com.au expressing your interest thus making it easy to contact you for the next round.

Until next time,
happy stitching,
Sharon

My charms have arrived!

A little while back I joined in on the
 Christmas Charm Square Swap

and this parcel arrived yesterday all the way from the U.S.
112 x 5" Charm Squares

so I sorted them all out in color groupings - so many beautiful prints but now what am I to do with them.

I originally went this way. Thinking about rows, 10 x 11 sashed in white

With the aim of creating a Christmas themed Picnic quilt.
I had a couple of rows all sewn together but then decided NO!

A lot of the prints are directional and if I kept going this way then there is a right and wrong way on the quilt so a quick rethink, some unpicking and a little more sewing and I've created this.....

My aim now is to create 4 of these and then twist each one 1/4 of a turn so it doesn't matter which way you approach the picnic rug some of the prints will be in the right direction :o)

Still in the thought process on adding extra sashings etc to make it big enough and because of this I don't think that it will be finished in time to use this year but that is OK because I am also toying with the idea of a little hand quiting.

This is very much a "wing it" or "make it up as you go" project.

Wish me luck,
Sharon

A HUGE thank you to Angie for hosting this swap, it has been so much fun.

A finish / Swap / and a little more

Another Xmas finish

I finished off the above stitcheries by backing them in some Xmas fabric, adding a little ribbon and an Xmas bell then decided on a place for them to hang over the festive season.

and whilst I'm mentioning Xmas.
Glenn has been away for the last couple of days with work so what's a girl to do with 4 kids whilst he isn't here ......

let them get out one of the Xmas trees of course!
It is now a WIP as they (the kids) want purple and gold so this weekend we will be shopping for a few more decorations to complete their vision.

I have also been tyring to finish quilting a top that is on my "Accountability List"

This is the top.

I have started quilting it and was hoping that in the ditch would be all that was required but again I am finding that it is a little puffy so I am trying to venture outside my comfort zone and add more quilting to it.

I will keep you posted on how I go but what I can say at the moment is that it is a HUGE learning curve.

Also,

Is anyone else interested in the Rainbow Charm Square Swap?

Original Post is HERE if you are and / or want more information.

Feel free to spread the word on your Blog (and use the below image if you like) as I need some more interest before I can proceed any further.

Thanks for stopping by,
Sharon

Rainbow Charm Swap - Expressions of Interest

Updated 12/1//2011
MEMBERSHIP IS NOW OPEN
IF YOU WISH TO TAKE PART
join the FLICKR GROUP HERE to join in all the fun :

Are you interested?

I am "toying" with the idea of hosting a Rainbow Charm Square Swap for Australian and New Zealand residents so this is my official call for your "Expression of Interest"

If you are interested kindly leave me a message at the bottom of this post and please, if you are a "no-reply blogger" I need a way to contact you so I suggest that you change your setting to take part.

At this stage there will be no commitment, I just want to know if it is worth going forward the next step.

As a basic outline it would run as follows:-

This swap will be based on the color wheel.
1 yard of fabric cuts up to 56 charm squares so that would be an idea number of participants.

Each participant will purchase two different fabrics-- one yard each.  They will then cut those into 5" square charms and send them to me.

Quilt-shop-quality fabric only please

If there are 56 participants, each person sends 112 charms (56 charms of each fabric), and I'll send you 112 different charms from other swappers.

I would assign everyone two different colors (blue, blue-green, green, green-yellow, etc.)  and you would need to purchase the fabrics in your assigned colors.

If all runs smoothly I may consider running another round but firstly, this round would be for print/ tone on tone fabrics only. Other rounds might be for Solids or Jewel Tones (colors with Black mixed in)  The fabric must represent the assigned color, but does not have to be entirely that color.  It would be advised to avoid large-scale prints as they will be cut to 5" squares. You would be asked to keep this in mind when choosing fabrics.

Image borrowed From the Blue Chair
I would set up a Flickr group for photos of fabrics to be posted so we can try to eliminate duplications.

Fabrics would need to be new and unwashed.

When mailing your fabric, you must include a self-addressed stamped envelope.  If you do not send a SASE with the correct postage, you will not receive your charms back.  (Just use the same postage you used to get your charms to me).  Place your fabric in a heavy Ziploc or other plastic bag.  Include a note listing your name, address set.  Fabric details would be put to Flickr when uploading photos.

New Zealand participants can pay return postage costs to me directly by Paypal (this is what I have done for a Xmas charm swap and it works well).

So if this sounds like something you might be interested in please leave me a message. Also suggest a start date ...... soon or after Xmas ...... or in the new year?

I would love to make another Rainbow quilt

How about you?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone,

Sharon
