Rainbow Starburst

It's not very often that you don't know about a quilt I am making until it is nearly finished but that is the case this time around.  Approximately 11 months ago I joined a group of friends over on Facebook to form a "Rainbow Bee".  I knew instantly what block I wanted for my month (May) so I posted the link to the tutorial etc.

I had chosen the
"Reverse Rainbow Starburst Block"

The tutorial for this block can be found HERE

Two of the last three blocks arrived this week so I laid my blocks out on the floor as one does and started to consider my options.  I was not sure if I wanted the blocks sashed or left as is so I posted the question to Instagram with this pic.

Then one comment led to a little "research" in the ladies Instagram feed. She had this quilt but it had a low volume block in amongst her 12 blocks.  I LOVED how it looked.  This lead to me making one block (bottom left) and then two blocks (2nd row, 1st block) followed by a third block (top row, 2nd block) and of course this quilt that was originally 12 blocks is growing out to 16 so I had to rethink the purple block.  It was great in the "Original version" but now I felt the new version of this quilt needed light and dark purple blocks so out came the unpick and then two new purple blocks were sewn. Then by Sunday morning I have developed a "dog with a bone" fixation (or as Glenn would say, obsession!) with this top and went ahead and made the black block.  One block away from having it finished.  Ahh what the ...... I went and made it too!

This Quilt will finish at 60" square and will have my favourite Black and white striped binding.

So there you go, I have a completed quilt top.
Now to find the perfect backing fabric and of course the backing will now have a couple of the Starburst blocks included in it. (The Green one still to come, the first block in the photo posted to Instagram and a Bonus Pink Block I've received).  My mind is racing with ideas for the back, especially being my scrap containers are still reasonably full, even with the raiding they have had for the additional blocks I've sewn for this top.

You know what this also means?
I have an empty project box :)
Great timing if you ask me as I have a bundle of fabric due soon and the perfect pattern :o)

Have a great week,
hugs Sharon

  11. It looks great. What a difference it made when you added the different shades. The 16 block version is much more pleasing to the eye than the 12 block one. The block is a great design too. Must file that one away.
