For the love .... Splendid Sampler 2

Welcome to week Seven of the

"Splendid Sampler 2 Sew-along"

I was thrilled to be asked by Jane and Pat to take part in round two of The Splendid Sampler as one of the Designers and I knew almost immediately what theme I wanted for my block.
My absolute favourite flower, the Tulip. It should be of no surprise to anyone
that this block is English Paper Pieced and today is the day I get to share it with you. :)

Allow me to introduce my block .....

"For the Love"

Inspired by the beautiful tulip blooms that grace the public gardens
of my home town each year and following my own quilting mantra of
 "Create what YOU love"
I selected one of my favourite blooms for my block, the Tulip.

You can find the link to my block HERE on the Splendid Sampler website.

Following the directions in the download, make the four tulip units for the block.

If you have a Scan n Cut machine (I have the CM 900) you can scan in the shapes from the download and cut accurate papers. If you do not, don't stress, just copy or trace the shapes to make your own papers.  I use a 160 - 220 gsm card stock from my local stationery supply store.

When EPPing (English Paper Piecing) your shapes together pair a quality needle up with a quality thread and remember to stitch the shortest route i.e. directly across the two pieces, not on an angle. This will help you achieve nice invisible stitches.

I have used a size 11 Milliners Needle (sometimes known as a Straw Needle) with Aurifil's 80wt Cotton Thread in colour 2021 which is an off white/soft cream colour.

Once you have completed the English Paper Pieced unit give it a light press with a warm iron and appliqué onto your background fabric, tucking the diamond points under as you go.

I am looking forward to seeing everyones version of my Tulip block.

Happy Stitching,

Sharon x

Milk and Cookie - Week 2 Splendid Sampler

Welcome to week two of the Splendid Sampler Sew Along.

This weeks block is by Rebecca Bryan and is called.

Milk and Cookies

Do I love milk and cookies? No! You an take the  milk and I will take the cookies!
Just like my dessert, in my quilts I love simple pleasures like repeating shapes
and secondary patterns. They go hand in hand, kind of like milk and cookies.
Basic, but always scrumptious and satisfying. - Rebecca

Excuse my wobbly edges. I didn't use any appliqué paper or alike to keep the edges nice and curved and appliqué of circles is not one of my strong points!

As I mentioned last week I am sashing my blocks as I go and I plan on setting some of my blocks on point. The next picture shows this block with my sashing for it to be on point.

If you would like any more details on the Splendid Sampler Sew along and to download this weeks block please visit the blog HERE. Every week Pat and Jane will be updating the blog and providing the link for the first 20 blocks in the lead up to the books release later this year.

Happy stitching,

The Splendid Sampler 2 has launched!

Welcome to the first week of the
'The Splendid Sampler 2'
Sew along.

Every week for the next 20 weeks Jane and Pat will be releasing one 6" finished block from their second book to kick start the sew along.  After the first 20 weeks you will need the book to continue with Jane and Pat selecting the next block to be made and we all get to stitch along together.

The blocks will be released every Thursday and it is my plan to bog mine here on the Friday.

The first block is .......

"Quilt Market" by Alex Veronelli

"The centre of the quilting industry, is International Quilt Market. Twice a year designer, manufacturers and quilt shop owners share the beauty of fabrics, the variety of stunning quilts, the newest innovations and most importantly, the building of lasting relationships.  When attending Quilt Market, I'm surrounded by friends in an inviting environment. I feel like I'm home. - Alex

And here is my version.

I am going 'scrappy Bonnie and Camille' for my blocks being that I already have a sashing plan I am going to sash my blocks as I go. Hopefully this will help keep me on track. It also makes me make a decision about the sashing colour now so that I do not linger/procrastinate/stall (you get the idea) on it too long.

So here is my finished Block 1.

To find and download the pattern and for all the sew along details visit HERE.
If you follow the links from the Splendid Sampler Blog to the Aurifil blog you might also want to enter the giveaway for some Aurifil Thread.

I always use Aurifil Thread in my sewing machine and the
50wt (orange spool) in #2024 is what I use for all my piecing.

Happy Stitching,

Sharon x

The Splendid Sampler Funs starts this week.

The Splendid Sampler 2 is the second book from Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson.

The book has 100 blocks that finish at 6".
All the blocks have been created by an awesome collection of creative people worldwide .
Each adding their own style to the complete project.
The list of the designers can be found HERE and yes I am one of them!

So, are you going to be sewing along?

The sewing kicks off this week with the first 20 blocks being provided free, one per week,
in the lead up to the books release and once the book is released there will be a nominated block per week, from the book to complete. Sounds like fun right :)

I will be sewing along with you and posting my blocks here on my blog and Instagram weekly.
I have decided to go 'scrappy Bonnie and Camille'.
What fabrics will you be playing with?

If you would like any more details please visit the Splendid Sampler Blog HERE
and I will be back in a few days to share with you my first block.

What a great way to get me back into regular blogging.
I have a lot of fun stuff to share so expect to see me back here more often.

Happy Sewing,
Sharon x
